Maps

American Memory - This Library of Congress site offers more than 7 million digital items from more than 100 historical collections.  To find early Pohatcong  maps, click 'Collection Finder' at the top of the screen and then select Maps under 'Original Format' .  Once on the search page, enter 'new jersey' into the search field and 'Match this exact phrase' and you'll get 154 NJ-related maps, many of which are from the 18th and 19th centuries.  Most enable you to zoom into the Pohatcong area.

One interesting map is "The Province of New Jersey, divided into East and West, commonly called the Jerseys" - Engraved & published by William Faden  circa 1778 which refers to the Pohatcong Creek as the Pohantunk and identifies the area known as 'Chelsea' which is thought to be the precursor of Finesville.  Another map refers to the Pohatcong Creek as the Pohatcunk River. And still another refers to the Musconetcong River as the Muskanetkunk Creek.
