Pohatcong Township
Rural and Historic Jewel in
Warren County New Jersey

Unless you are familiar with Warren County, you may have never heard of Pohatcong.  This township of about 13 square miles features a large trout creek, beautiful mountains, hidden valleys and sweeping grasslands carved into its rural landscape and includes miles of frontage on two major recreational rivers - the Musconetcong River and the Delaware River. 

The townspeople are actively involved in limiting growth and preserving the area's natural character.  Through their efforts, a 500 acre bird sanctuary was created out of the Pohatcong Grasslands area and the local historical society is in the process of placing some of its villages, Finesville and Siegletown, on the National Register of Historic Places. 

The western, eastern and southern sections of town are decidedly rural with the largest concentration of homes in Finesville - Seigletown, many of which are 18th and 19th century stone buildings.  Historic homes are often highly prized throughout this township but you can also find colonials, cape cods, ranches, split levels and contemporaries.  

Don't get the impression that living here will require hour-long treks to obtain daily necessities.  The northern end of town is a lightly built up suburb with several famous department, chain and grocery stores including the Phillipsburg Mall. Two major interstates, Routes 78 and 22, run through town which residents can hop on for quick access to many employment centers. And the Transbridge Bus to New York City stops within the borders.  This northern end of town features late 1800s to 1990s homes on lovely tree lined streets nestled between the shopping convenience and the rural landscape.
