Set high in the mountains, Watchung runs
along Route 78 in the easternmost section of Somerset County. Watchung is
blessed with a location along the First Watchung Mountain that offers
commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Many houses are built
along precipitous slopes and offer privacy and views that are hard to find
so close to New York.
Downtown Watchung is almost non-existent (
a furniture store, some convenience stores, a large park). Summit, the
Mall at Short Hills, and Route 22 offer access to most necessary services,
shopping and restaurants.
