Greenwich Connecticut Back Country...
Bedford and Locust Valley New York...
Harding Township New Jersey
Over the past several years much of the New
York Metropolitan area has taken on an expensive upmarket air as home
prices have soared in most neighborhoods. However, there are certain
towns that have always been the most expensive and highly prized and
arguably, Harding Township is one of them.
Located in the southeastern section of
Morris County, Harding and its crossroads downtown, New Vernon, has been
home to estates and horse properties since the 19th Century. Drive down
any of its winding roads and pass estate after estate--each one larger
than the last. Harding's attempts to maintain its leafy country feel
include a grassroots effort to keep its Great Swamp National Wildlife
Refuge from becoming an airport in the 1960s.
There isn't much to do in Harding and
residents appear to like it that way. Besides the sleepy New Vernon
section, commercial development is limited to Route 202 -- known as the
Country Mile which offers country stores, restaurants, and antiques.
Morristown, Madison, Chatham, Summit and Bernardsville with their larger
shopping opportunities are just down the road, as is the famous Mall at
Short Hills.
Starter homes begin just under $1 million
with most homes these days listed between $1 million to $4 million--some
even higher. Harding Township is often a pleasant surprise to those who
are unfamiliar with Morris County. If you are in the high end property
market in Bergen, Westchester, Fairfield or Nassau Counties and need to be
close to New York, Harding Township is a must see.
