This sophisticated country village is
located in the northern section of Somerset County in the famed Somerset
Hills. Bernardsville was home to the wealthy in the late 19th and early
20th century as the rich were drawn to the mountain air. Estates
sprang up all over the Bernardsville Mountain and the construction boom
has yet to end. Mansions line the roads up and down the mountain north of
the village.
Bernardsville's downtown runs along Route
202 and offers most essential services, several fine restaurants and a
train station with service to New York. The extreme wealth of the town and
the busy downtown provides for a more city feel than some of the smaller
villages surrounding Bernardsville. Yet drive the backroads to see some of
the spectacular countryside which is prized by residents.
